This standard covers design and performance criteria for circulation systems including components, devices, and related technology installed to protect against entrapment hazards in residential and public swimming pools, wading pools, inground spas, infinity edge basins, (infinity edge type pools) and catch Pools, and Aquatic Recreation Facilities.

American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance in Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins
The purpose of this standard is to establish anti-entrapment performance requirements for public and residential swimming pools, wading pools, field-constructed spas and hot tubs, and any other bather-accessible body of water, including but not limited to, catch pools, infinity edge basins, and water features that contain a skimmer, fully submerged Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly (SOFA) or vacuum port fitting. The term “pool” is used throughout this standard as an identifier for these bodies of water.

This standard covers public swimming pools to be used for swimming, bathing, competitive activities, or recreational activities and operated by an owner, lessee, operator, licensee, or concessionaire, regardless of whether a fee is charged for use.

American National Standard for Permanently Installed Residential Spas and Swim Spas
This standard is intended to cover permanently installed residential spas and swim spas and not public spas, swim spas or factory built residential portable spas, swim spas that are used for bathing and are operated by an owner. In this type of spa the heater and water circulating equipment are not an integral part of the product. The spa is intended as a permanent fixture, and is not intended to be moved.

American National Standard for Water Quality in Public Pools and Spas
Public swimming pools and spas. This standard covers public swimming pools and spas to be used for bathing and operated by an owner, licensee, or concessionaire, regardless of whether a fee is charged for use. Public swimming pools covered by this standard. Public swimming pools covered by this standard include all the classes in section 2 below. Pools designed for interaction with marine life have special requirements and are not covered by this standard. Variation in methods. This standard provides specifications for water quality parameters, but does not specify the technologies needed to achieve these values.
ANSI/IAF 9-2005
American National Standard for Aquatic Recreation Facilities
This standard provides recommended minimum guidelines for the design, equipment operation, and installation of waterparks. Pools covered by this standard are designed for free-form aquatic play and recreation and differ from those addressed in ANSI/NSPI-1: Standard for Public Swimming Pools. Pools covered by this standard include pools: wave action pools; activity pools; catch pools; leisure rivers; vortex pools; interactive play attractions - water treatment and filtration only.
