DIN EN ISO 10882-1:2012

Health and safety in welding and allied processes - Sampling of airborne particles and gases in the operator's breathing zone - Part 1: Sampling of airborne particles (ISO 10882-1:2011); German version EN ISO 10882-1:2011

This document specifies a procedure for personal sampling of airborne particles in welding and allied processes. The procedure describes determination of personal exposure to welding fume and other airborne particles generated by welding related operations. The general background level of airborne particles in the workplace atmosphere influences personal exposure, and therefore the role of fixed point sampling is also considered.*This standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 121/SC 9 "Health and safety in welding and allied processes" the secretariat of which is held by DIN, in collaboration with ISO/TC 44/SC 9 of the same name. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 092-00-09 AA "Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz beim Schweißen" ("Health and safety in welding and allied processes") at NAS. The standard specifies a procedure for sampling airborne particles in the breathing zone of a person who performs welding and allied processes. The procedure describes an assessment of personal exposure to welding fume and other airborne particles which develop during processes related to welding. The role of fixed-point sampling is also considered. Guidance is given to carry out chemical analysis for assessment of personal exposure to specify chemical agents in welding fume. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN ISO 10882-1:2001-04: a) clause 3 "Terms and definitions" has been subdivided into general terms and sampling, welding and statistical terms; b) in clause 9, variables in equation (2) have been modified; c) clause 10 (Exposure assessment to specific chemical agents in weldingfume) has been shortened and a reference to ISO 15011-4 (Health and safety in welding and allied processes - Laboratory method for sampling fume and gases - Part 4: Fume data sheets) has been included; d) normative Annex A (Weighing) has been added; e) Figures A.1.2, A.3.1, A.3.2 and A.3.3 have been modified and transferred to informative Annex B (Examples of arrangements for mounting samplers behind welder's face shields); f) in informative Annex B, Table B.1 (Characteristics of the ideal mounting arrangement) has been revised and Table B.2 (Evaluation of the characteristics of example mounting arrangements) has been included; g) informative Annex D (Techniques suitable for chemical analysis) has been deleted; h) a new informative Annex D (Blank report form) has been included; i) informative Annex E (Control of filter quality and weighing conditions) has been transferred to the normative part of clause 9; j) a Bibliography has been included.
