Principles of Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment standards address the multifaceted methodology at the core of risk assessment and risk management programs. They outline the basic terminology, principles, and guidelines for the implementation of risk assessment practices intended to enhance safety in the workplace. Procedures for the identification of hazards, the estimation and evaluation of risk, and the substantial reduction of said risks are expounded upon in great detail. An understanding of and coherent approach to risk assessment is vital to the curtailment of risks associated with machinery.

ISO 31000 / ISO Guide 73 / ISO/IEC 31010 Risk Management Package

ISO 31000 / ISO Guide 73 / ISO/IEC 31010 Risk Management Package

ISO 31000 / ISO Guide 73 / ISO/IEC 31010 Risk Management Package provides the principles, guidelines, vocabulary and risk assessment techniques to be used in a risk management program. This package can be used by any public, private or community enterprise, association, group or individual and applied throughout the life of an organization, and to a wide range of activities, including strategies and decisions, operations, processes, functions, projects, products, services and assets. The ISO 31000 / ISO Guide 73 / ISO/IEC 31010 Risk Management Package is applicable to any type of risk regardless of it nature and aims to encourage a mutual and consistent understanding of, and a coherent approach to risk management. This package includes: ISO 31000:2018 ISO 31000:2018 - Risk Management - A Practical Guide ISO Guide 73:2009 IEC 31010:2019 ISO 31000 - A Practical Guide for SMEs - Historical document

IEC 31010:2019

Risk management - Risk assessment techniques

IEC 31010:2019 is published as a double logo standard with ISO and provides guidance on the selection and application of techniques for assessing risk in a wide range of situations. The techniques are used to assist in making decisions where there is uncertainty, to provide information about particular risks and as part of a process for managing risk. The document provides summaries of a range of techniques, with references to other documents where the techniques are described in more detail. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:• more detail is given on the process of planning, implementing, verifying and validating the use of the techniques;• the number and range of application of the techniques has been increased;• the concepts covered in ISO 31000 are no longer repeated in this standard. Keywords: uncertainty, risk management

ISO 12100:2010

Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction

ISO 12100:2010 specifies basic terminology, principles and a methodology for achieving safety in the design of machinery. It specifies principles of risk assessment and risk reduction to help designers in achieving this objective. These principles are based on knowledge and experience of the design, use, incidents, accidents and risks associated with machinery. Procedures are described for identifying hazards and estimating and evaluating risks during relevant phases of the machine life cycle, and for the elimination of hazards or sufficient risk reduction. Guidance is given on the documentation and verification of the risk assessment and risk reduction process. ISO 12100:2010 is also intended to be used as a basis for the preparation of type-B or type-C safety standards. It does not deal with risk and/or damage to domestic animals, property or the environment.

ISO/TR 14121-2:2012

Safety of machinery - Risk assessment - Part 2: Practical guidance and examples of methods

ISO/TR 14121-2:2012 gives practical guidance on conducting risk assessment for machinery in accordance with ISO 12100 and describes various methods and tools for each step in the process. It gives examples of different measures that can be used to reduce risk and is intended to be used for risk assessment on a wide variety of machinery in terms of complexity and potential for harm. Its intended users are those involved in the design, installation or modification of machinery (for example, designers, technicians or safety specialists).

ANSI B11.0-2020

Safety of Machinery

This type-A standard applies to new, existing, modified or rebuilt power driven machines, not portable by hand while working, that are used to process materials by cutting; forming; pressure; electrical, thermal or optical techniques; lamination; or a combination of these processes. This includes associated equipment used to transfer material or tooling, including fixtures, to assemble/disassemble, and to inspect or test. The associated equipment, including logic controller(s) and associated software or logic together with the machine actuators and sensors, are considered a part of the industrial machinery. Contains B11.TR3 in its entirety.

ANSI B11.0-2015 (Format 2)

Machines - Safety of Machinery (Double Column Format)

This Type-A standard applies to new, existing, modified or rebuilt power driven machines, not portable by hand while working, that are used to process materials by cutting; forming; pressure; electrical, thermal or optical techniques; lamination; or a combination of these processes.

B11.TR3 -2000 (R2015)

ANSI Technical Report for Machines - Risk assessment and risk reduction - A guide to estimate, evaluate and reduce risks associated with machine tools

This ANSI Technical Report provides the procedures and methods to assess the risks associated with the design, construction, care and use of machine tools as included in the B11 series of machine tool safety standards. It serves as a guideline for suppliers and users of machine tools, providing a framework and procedure to identify tasks and hazards, and to estimate, evaluate, reduce and document the risks associated with these hazards under the various conditions of use of that machine or system.

ISO Guide 73:2009

Risk management - Vocabulary

ISO Guide 73:2009 provides the definitions of generic terms related to risk management. It aims to encourage a mutual and consistent understanding of, and a coherent approach to, the description of activities relating to the management of risk, and the use of uniform risk management terminology in processes and frameworks dealing with the management of risk. ISO Guide 73:2009 is intended to be used by: those engaged in managing risks, those who are involved in activities of ISO and IEC, and developers of national or sector-specific standards, guides, procedures and codes of practice relating to the management of risk. For principles and guidelines on risk management, reference is made to ISO 31000:2009.
