Compressors and Pneumatic Machine Tools

Standards for pneumatic tools and machines, along with compressors and air treatment, establish the basic concepts, terms, and definitions, essentially providing a standardized vocabulary to improve communication and reliable interoperability. Developed by ISO, the standards go on to lay down a series of preferred pressures.

ISO 5391:2003

Pneumatic tools and machines - Vocabulary

ISO 5391:2003 provides a vocabulary for the various types of pneumatic tools and machines, and the attachments that are used with them.

ISO 3857-1:1977

Compressors, pneumatic tools and machines - Vocabulary - Part 1: General

Establishes basic concepts in English and French as well as symbols and units. Table 1 tabulates symbols and units referred to ISO/R 31 and ISO 3857; table 2 contains letters used as symbols; table 3 comprises letters and figures used as subscripts. An annex gives references.

ISO 3857-2:1977

Compressors, pneumatic tools and machines -- Vocabulary -- Part 2: Compressors

Establishes terms and definitions in English and French relating to compressors, comprises: general, temperatures, flow rates, pressures, powers, specific energy requirement, efficiencies and related information.

ISO 3857-3:1989

Compressors, pneumatic tools and machines - Vocabulary - Part 3: Pneumatic tools and machines

Establishes terms and definitions in English and French relating to pneumatic tools and machines, comprises: pneumatic motors and pneumatic tools including rotary tools and percussive tools.

ISO 5941:1979

Compressors, pneumatic tools and machines - Preferred pressures

Lays down a series of preferred pressures to be used as reference pressure when presenting performance data for pneumatic equipment. Components for compressed air systems should also be designet to meet the standardized pressures. The stated pressure are effective (gauge) pressures, given in bars.
