Equipment Safety Standards

Welding Equipment Safety Standards address the proper design, manufacture, installation, and use of the varied and complicated equipment used for welding. Given the nature of welding, the obvious potential for danger requires safety considerations to be an integral part of the design process and manufacturing of the equipment involved. Welding equipment safety is therefore the first line of defense, and standardization helps assure cohesion between the equipment that welders use and everything surrounding it.


ISO 15615:2013

Gas welding equipment - Acetylene manifold systems for welding, cutting and allied processes - Safety requirements in high-pressure devices

ISO 15615:2013 establishes the general specifications, requirements and tests for devices located on the high-pressure side of acetylene manifold systems as defined in ISO 14114. It does not cover the high-pressure piping, flexible hoses and the regulator.


IEC 62135-1 Ed. 2.0 b:2015

Resistance welding equipment - Part 1: Safety requirements for design, manufacture and installation

IEC 62135-1:2015 applies to equipment for resistance welding and allied processes and includes single and multiple welding stations which may be manually or automatically loaded and/or started. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2008. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - creepage distances for pollution degree 4 are no longer valid (see Table 2); - insulation requirements for Class II equipment are defined (see Table 3); - dielectric test voltage interpolation restriction lower limit is changed to 220 V and interpolation for control and welding circuit is clarified (see Table 4); - maximum temperature for insulation systems are reviewed in accordance with current edition of IEC 60085 (see Table 7); - marking of terminals is defined (see 10.3); - table for nominal voltages of supply networks is changed adopting Table B.2 of IEC 60664-1:2007 in place of the Table B.1 values referenced in the previous edition to provide for equipment to be connected to both earthed and unearthed systems. The change impacts the creepage and clearance distance requirements for some supply voltage ratings (see Annex A); - touch current in fault condition are measurement procedures are clarified (see 6.4.4 and Annex C); - welding circuit touch current is defined (see 6.2.6); - touch current in normal condition are clarified and moved in protection against electric shock in normal service (see 6.3.7); - heating test conditions are clarified (see 7.1.1); - external surface temperature rise limitation is changed (see 7.3.2).


IEC 62135-2 Ed. 3.0 b:2020

Resistance welding equipment - Part 2: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements

IEC 62135-2:2020 is available as IEC 62135-2:2020 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition. IEC 62135-2:2020 is applicable to equipment for resistance welding and allied processes which are connected to mains supplies with rated voltages up to 1 000 V AC RMS. This document does not define safety requirements. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2015. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - update of the applicable limits related to the updated references; - implementation of radiated magnetic field requirements.


BS EN ISO 5175-1:2017

Gas welding equipment. Safety devices. Devices incorporating a flame (flashback) arrestor (British Standard)

ISO 5175-1:2017 specifies the general requirements and tests for safety devices for fuel gases and oxygen or compressed air incorporating a flame (flashback) arrestor used downstream of manifold, cylinder and/or pipeline outlet regulators, and upstream of blowpipes for welding, cutting and allied processes. ISO 5175-1:2017 does not specify the location of these devices in the gas system. ISO 5175-1:2017 is not applicable to safety devices not incorporating a flame arrestor, covered by ISO 5175 2. ISO 5175-1:2017 does not apply to the use of safety devices incorporating flame arrestors for applications with premixed oxy/fuel or air/fuel gas supply systems, e.g. downstream of gas mixers or a generator to produce hydrogen/oxygen mixture by electrolytic decomposition of water.

ISO 5175-2:2017 specifies the general requirements and tests for safety devices for fuel gases and oxygen or compressed air which do not incorporate a flame (flashback) arrestor used downstream of manifold, cylinder and/or pipeline outlet regulators, and upstream of blowpipes for welding, cutting and allied processes. ISO 5175-2:2017 does not specify the location of these devices in the gas system. ISO 5175-2:2017 in not applicable to safety devices which incorporate a flame arrestor, covered by ISO 5175 1.


DIN 8541-2:1987

Hoses for welding, cutting and allied processes; hoses with protective cover for use with fuel gas, oxygen and other non-combustible gases (FOREIGN STANDARD)

For the use in welding, cutting and allied processes, particularly for thermal cutting, hoses with coating for fuel gas, oxygen and other non combustible gases are specified. For the hoses the dimensions, safety requirements, tests and details for marking are laid down.


DIN 8541-3:1995

Rubber oxygen hoses for welding, cutting and allied processes, with or without protective cover, designed for special requirements - Part 3: Safety requirements and testing (FOREIGN STANDARD)

The document applies to oxygen rubber hoses with and without coatings for special requirements on equipments and machines for welding, cutting and allied processes. It does not apply for rubber hoses on converters.
