Welding Structural Codes

The American Welding Society (AWS) Structural Welding Code for Steel and Aluminum covers a range of requirements for structural welding. With the justifiably widespread usage of steel and aluminum in structural welding applications, the AWS structural welding code is a key element of standardization efforts within the welding industry. Included below are several bundles combining those standards which are frequently used together.

AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2020

Structural Welding Code - Steel

This code covers the welding requirements for any type of welded structure made from the commonly used carbon and low-alloy constructional steels. Clauses 1 through 11 constitute a body of rules for the regulation of welding in steel construction. There are eight normative and eleven informative annexes in this code. A Commentary of the code is included with the document.

AWS D1.3/D1.3M:2018

Structural Welding Code - Sheet Steel

This code covers the requirements associated with welding sheet steel having a minimum specified yield point no greaterthan 80 ksi [550 MPa]. The code requirements cover any welded joint made from the commonly used structural quality low-carbon hot rolled and cold rolled sheet and strip steel with or without zinc coating (galvanized). Clause 1 includes general provisions, Clause 4 design, Clause 5 prequalification, Clause 6 qualification, Clause 7 fabrication, and Clause 8 inspection.

AWS D1.8/D1.8M:2016

Structural Welding Code-Seismic Supplement

This document supplements the requirements to the D1.1/D1.1M Structural Welding Code as it relates to seismic provisions. It is intended to cover common applications to welded joints in Seismic Force Resisting Systems designed in accordance with the American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. Seismic Provisions. Covers additional controls on detailing, materials, workmanship, testing, and inspection necessary to achieve adequate performance of welded steel structures under conditions of severe earthquake-induced inelastic straining.

CSA W55.3-2008 (R2018)

Certification of companies for resistance welding of steel and aluminum

Preface This is the second edition of CSA W55.3, Certification of companies for resistance welding of steel and aluminum. It supersedes the first edition, published in 1965 under the title Resistance Welding Qualification Code for Fabricators of Structural Members Used in Buildings. Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies requirements for the certification of companies engaged in resistance welding of steel and aluminum. 1.2 This Standard specifies requirements for (a) the qualification of personnel; (b) the qualification of welding procedures; and (c) process control procedures. 1.3 This Standard does not address safety issues associated with welding and welding practices. It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Note: CAN/CSA-W117.2 addresses safety in welding. 1.4 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.

ASTM E329-21

Standard Specification for Agencies Engaged in Construction Inspection, Testing, or Special Inspection

1.1 This specification defines the minimum requirements for agencies engaged in any of the following: (a) Inspection of specified methods and materials used in construction, (b) Special Inspection, and (c) Testing of materials used in construction. 1.2 Criteria are provided for assessing the competence of an agency to properly perform designated inspections, tests, or Special Inspection services. This specification establishes essential characteristics pertaining to the organization, management, personnel, facilities, quality systems, responsibilities, duties, inspection and testing methods, records, and reports of the agency. This specification may be supplemented by more specific criteria and requirements, if required. 1.2.1 This specification specifically addresses factors relevant to an agency's ability to produce precise, accurate test data or determine the conformity of construction activities and materials used in construction with regulations, codes, standards, and approved project plans and specifications containing the requirements against which the inspection or test, or both, will be performed. Specific or general requirements include: 1.2.1.1 Facilities and management of the agency, 1.2.1.2 Sufficiency and technical competency of personnel, 1.2.1.3 Suitability, calibration, and maintenance of equipment, 1.2.1.4 Quality system, audit, and review, 1.2.1.5 Responsibilities, duties, and authority of agencies, 1.2.1.6 Validity and appropriateness of sampling, testing, and inspection methods and procedures, 1.2.1.7 Management of records, 1.2.1.8 Reporting, review, and transmission of test and inspection data or findings, and 1.2.1.9 Specific requirements for identified fields (concrete, soil, etc.). 1.3 This specification can be used as a basis to assess an agency and is intended for use in accrediting agencies, public or private, engaged in inspection, testing, and Special Inspection of construction activities and materials used in construction. These services include but are not limited to reinforced concrete, precast concrete, structural steel erection, welding, bolting, soil and rock, foundations, masonry, sprayed fire-resistive materials, fire stops, exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS), and Special Cases. Building officials can use Specification E329 to assess the competency of agencies in the fields covered by Specification E329 . 1.4 A certificate of accreditation, including the scope of accreditation, is required to comply with this specification. 1.5 The users of an accredited agency must review the agency's scope of accreditation to ensure the agency has been accredited for its technical competence to perform the specific inspections or tests requested by the user. 1.6 This specification is not intended to: (a) circumvent or replace the agreement between the agency and the owner that should clearly define the responsibilities and authorities of the agency; (b) address design requirements that supersede applicable codes, laws, and regulations; or (c) address construction means, methods, techniques, or sequences. 1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ASTM F1090-15

Standard Classification for Bank and Mercantile Vault Construction

1.1 This classification is for the use and guidance of those who purchase, design, construct, install, approve, or modify storage vault enclosures, intended for the protection of assets against loss due to forced entry. 1.2 This classification is a systematic arrangement of constructed products, based on similar intrusion resistance characteristics, as derived from available test data. 1.3 This classification does not address fire resistivity. 1.4 This classification does not address the methods of interfacing vault components. Things such as tamper notification, intrusion detection, response timelines, or other issues, typically forming a complete vault system, should be considered for inclusion.
