Press-Connect Copper and Copper Alloy Fittings for Use in Fuel Gas Distribution Systems

Preface

This publication represents a basic standard for safe operation, substantial and durable construction, and acceptable performance of gas-fired pool heaters. It is the result of years of experience in the manufacture, testing, installation, maintenance, inspection and research on gas-fired pool heaters designed for utilization of gas. There are risks of injury to persons inherent in appliances that, if completely eliminated, would defeat the utility of the appliance. The provisions in this standard are intended to help reduce such risks while retaining the normal operation of the appliance.

1. Scope

1.1.1 This standard applies to copper and copper alloy press-connect type fittings, and valves (hereafter referred to as fittings unless otherwise specified) for use with fuel gas tube systems intended for installation above ground, below ground, indoors and outdoors.

1.1.2 This standard applies to tube systems rated for operating pressures not exceeding 125 psi (862 kPa).

1.1.3 This standard applies to fittings intended for use with copper tube 1/2 through 4 nominal size.

1.1.4 If a value for measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification. This document is based on yard/pound quantities with SI equivalents provided as a guide for making metric conversions.

1.1.5 Fittings and other components complying with the provisions of this standard shall be considered as having an ambient temperature range of minus 40F (-40 C) to 180F (82.2C).

1.1.6 This standard includes requirements to establish the suitability for use in concealed locations. (See part IV, Definitions)
