NFSI: National Floor Safety Institute

NFSI, the National Floor Safety Institute, was founded in 1997 as a nonprofit organization whose mission is to aid in the prevention of slips, trips-and-falls through education, research, and standards development. The NFSI is led by a fifteen-member Board of Directors representing product manufacturers, insurance underwriters, trade associations, and independent consultants. In June 2006, NFSI was designated as a Standards Developer for the American National Standards Institute in developing standards for Safety Requirements for Slip, Trip, and Fall Prevention under the NFSI B101 Standards Committee. In October 2009, ANSI approved the first NFSI Standard, ANSI/NFSI B101.1-2009, the Testing Method for Measuring Wet SCOF of Common Hard-Surface Materials. Standards from NFSI are available both individually, directly through the ANSI webstore, and as part of a Standards Subscription. If you or your organization are interested in easy, managed, online access to standards that can be shared, a Standards Subscription may be what you need - please contact us at: [email protected] or 1-212-642-4980 or Request Proposal Price.

ANSI/NFSI B101.6-2017

Standard Guide for Commercial Entrance Matting in Reducing Slips, Trips and Falls

This standard provides the criteria for the selection, installation, inspection, care and maintenance of entrance mats and runners in commercial facilities in reducing slips, trips and falls

NFSI B101.3-2020

Test Method for Measuring the Wet DCOF of Hard Surface Walkways

This test method specifies the procedures and devices used for both laboratory and field-testing to measure the wet dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) of hard-surface walkways. This test method provides a measurement procedure setting forth DCOF ranges which facilitate remediation of walkway surfaces when warranted.

ANSI/NFSI B101.3-2012

Test Method for Measuring Wet DCOF of Common Hard-Surface Floor Materials

This test method specifies the procedures and devices used for both laboratory and field testing to measure the wet dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) of common hard-surface floor materials.

NFSI B101.1-2020

Test Method for Measuring the Wet SCOF of Hard-Surface Walkways

This test method specifies the procedures and devices used for both laboratory and field-testing to measure the wet static coefficient of friction (SCOF) of hard-surface walkways. This test method provides a measurement procedure setting forth SCOF ranges which facilitate remediation of walkway surfaces when warranted.

ANSI/NFSI B101.1-2009

Test Method for Measuring Wet SCOF of Common Hard-Surface Floor Materials

This test method specifies the procedures and devices used for both laboratory and field testing to measure the wet static coefficient of friction (SCOF) of common hard-surface floor materials. This test method provides a measurement procedure setting forth traction ranges that facilitate remediation of walkway surfaces when warranted. This test method does not apply to carpeting of any type or mechanically polished tile such as polished porcelain, marble, etc., but does address the common hard-surfaced flooring materials such as ceramic tile, vinyl floor coverings, and wood laminates, as well as coatings, polishes, etc. (Includes revised Letter of Interpretation 9/2010)

ANSI/NFSI B101.6-2012

Standard Guide for Commercial Entrance Matting in Reducing Slips, Trips and Falls

This standard provides the criteria for the selection, installation, inspection, care and maintenance of entrance mats and runners in commercial facilities in reducing slips, trips and falls

ANSI/NFSI B101.0-2021

Walkway Surface Auditing Procedure for the Measurement of Walkway Slip Resistance

This standard provides the technical procedures for walkway auditing and measuring the coefficient of friction (tribometry) of walkway surfaces in both public and private facilities.

NFSI B101.6-2021

Standard Guide for Commercial Entrance Matting in Reducing Slips, Trips and Falls

This standard provides the criteria for the selection, installation, inspection, care and maintenance of entrance mats and runners in commercial facilities in reducing slips, trips and falls

NFSI B101.8-2020

Standard Guide for Floor Safety Management Program for Slip, Trip and Fall Prevention

This standard sets forth criteria to assist organizations in their efforts to establish a floor safety management program including the roles and the responsibilities of management, supervisory, and operational levels using accepted best practices to prevent and mitigate the risks of slips, trips and falls on walkways (S/T/F’s)  Explanation: As the scope indicates the provisions which follow offer a set of principles to fit into an overarching loss control system that also provides flexibility to expand the framework of these provisions.

ANSI/NFSI B101.0-2017

Walkway Surface Auditing Procedure for the Measurement of Walkway Slip Resistance

This standard provides the technical procedures for walkway auditing and measuring the coefficient of friction (tribometry) of walkway surfaces in both public and private facilities.
