ANSI Recognizes FAA's Drone Safety Awareness Week

11/08/2019
ANSI supports the safety of drones through its Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative (UASSC)

As the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hosts its first-ever National Drone Safety Awareness Week, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recognizes standardization work that supports drone applications.

The FAA encourages the industry to host drone related events, and engage stakeholders using the #DroneWeek hashtag. The FAA highlighted various aspects of safety within the industry each day of the campaign week from November 4-10, including public safety and security, infrastructure and agriculture, education and STEM, and more.

ANSI supports the safety of drones through its Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative (UASSC). The UASSC's mission is to coordinate and accelerate the development of the standards and conformity assessment programs needed to facilitate the safe integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, into the national airspace system.

The collaborative also focuses on international coordination and adaptability, with the goal of fostering the growth of the UAS market, particularly related to civil, commercial, and public safety applications.

ANSI recently issued a call for participants for UASSC, following the group's plenary meeting held September 12 in Washington, DC, which served as the official launch of an update to the Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (December 2018).

ANSI extends its appreciation to the FAA, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, ASTM International, and others, for their generous contributions to support the work of the UASSC.
