IAPMO Honored with President's "E" Award for Its Contributions to Increasing U.S. Exports
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, was recently recognized for its outstanding contributions to increasing United States exports with the President's "E" Award for Export Service.
"The 'E' Awards Committee was very impressed with IAPMO's success in supporting foreign adoption of U.S. developed and internationally recognized plumbing standards to open new export markets in Asia," said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, at a May award ceremony in the U.S. Department of Commerce headquarters. "The organization's opening of a testing and certification facility in Jakarta to facilitate the exports of U.S. plumbing products to Indonesia was also particularly notable. IAPMO's achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs."
Five years ago, IAPMO formed a partnership with the U.S. Commerce Department's International Trade Administration (ITA) to generate exports to Indonesia and increase the competitiveness of the U.S. plumbing supply industry in that region. Through the partnership and a grant that IAPMO received from the ITA, IAPMO and Indonesia's National Standardization Agency signed a memorandum of understanding and created a comprehensive body of regulations that will provide the technical basis of Indonesia's water/sanitation infrastructure. As a result of these regulations, public safety and infrastructure in Indonesia are being improved, and there are increased opportunities for U.S. plumbing products and services to be sold in the Indonesian market. Since the project began, there has been an 85% increase in total annualized U.S. plumbing exports to Indonesia.
"Congratulations to IAPMO on this well-deserved and distinctive award for their significant contributions to supporting not only U.S. manufacturer competitiveness in foreign markets, but also the development of high-quality infrastructure internationally," said ANSI president and CEO Joe Bhatia. "ANSI is proud to support U.S. public-private partnerships in standardization and the foreign adoption of U.S.-developed and internationally recognized standards to open new export markets that support the U.S. economy."

CTA Study Offers Insight into Consumer Interest in Robotics at Home
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has released statistics from a recent study of 2,000 U.S. adults who are familiar with robotics.
According to the study, 45% of adults in the U.S. are familiar with robotics, and of that group, 84% are enthusiastic about the use of robotics in their everyday life. Overall, consumers would like to see robotics offer convenience, money savings, and time savings, in both the household and education arenas. Many consumers (84%) also expressed an interested in using robotics to deliver food and packages, as well as in a health care setting (67%). So far, only one in five U.S. adults has already interacted with household robotics, such as robotic lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, and window cleaners.

DASMA Website Lists Safety Tips for Garage Doors
The Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association International (DASMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of safety tips and guidelines for garage doors, garage door openers, gate openers, and gate systems, as well as a maintenance guide to keep garage doors and openers in good shape.
DASMA offers many other safety, installation, and maintenance suggestions, including references to UL and ASTM standards and testing that support safe and properly functioning doors. To read more, see DASMA's website.
Approval of TAG Accreditation to ISO TC 304 on Healthcare organization management
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has formally approved the accreditation of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 304, Healthcare organization management and the appointment of InGenesis, Inc. as TAG Administrator, effective May 30, 2019. ANSI is the U.S. member body to ISO.
The TAG will operate under the Model Operating Procedures for U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ANSI for ISO Activities as contained in Annex A of the ANSI International Procedures.
