10/11/2019

Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

AIAA to Hold Course on Space Standards and Architecture
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, is holding a course for individuals and organizations that seek to improve their teams' understanding of the benefits and usability of space standards and architectural frameworks.

"Space Standards and Architectures" is designed for spaceflight mission planners, managers, designers, and engineers pursuing guidance on the broad space standards environment. They will learn how to apply the most beneficial standards to their missions, gaining the tools to determine which of over 500 space standards are applicable to a given mission's needs. Attendees will learn about current model-based engineering methods to develop and communicate architectural decisions, as well as the role and interaction of standards developing organizations.

The course will be held on January 5 in Orlando, Florida. Its intended audience is mission users, not standards developers. To learn more and register, visit AIAA's website.

AHAM Offers Information on Counterfeit Water Filters after Recent Seizures by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol
The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, offers stakeholders information on how to identify and avoid counterfeit water filters. This issue has resurfaced recently following the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol's seizure of more than 5,200 counterfeit refrigerator water filters in California.

Counterfeit filters do not effectively remove contaminants, and may add them to the water. They can also leak, causing damage to appliances or property. AHAM advises that it may be difficult to distinguish genuine and counterfeit filters. Genuine filters likely weigh more, have a certification symbol, and can be purchased from reputable sources listed by AHAM's site on genuine and counterfeit water filters - www.filteritout.org.

Learn more in the AHAM press release.
