People on the Move

8/09/2019

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that Tim Mathson joined the association as principal engineer.

Mr. Mathson is active within AMCA and the standards community. He has worked with a major fan manufacturer for more than 30 years and was the primary developer of AMCA's new fan-efficiency metric, the fan energy index (FEI). He served as the chair of the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 117, Fans. He was also chair of the committees for ASHRAE Standard 51 / ANSI/AMCA Standard 210, Laboratory Methods of Testing Fans for Certified Aerodynamic Performance Rating, and ANSI/AMCA 208, Calculation of the Fan Energy Index. Mr. Mathson is an active member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 5.1, Fans, and presents seminars for ASHRAE.

"We're really pleased to have Tim join AMCA's engineering team," AMCA executive director Mark Stevens said. "He's a great fit for AMCA, and our members will feel a positive impact nearly immediately. Tim will be primarily supporting the lab, but we'll be tapping him for ISO and ASHRAE representation, advocacy, and training."

AMC Institute, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced a transition in their leadership slated to occur in April 2020. Scott Engle, current CEO, will step down from his role and assume the position of chair of AMC's Board of Directors. Mr. Engle has been CEO of the organization since 2017. Joining AMC in 1981, he is the second generation of the Engle family to lead the organization. He has been chief staff executive for many client partners, and worked closely with other partners and staff to advance clients' needs, goals, and missions.

Steve Smith has been chosen to serve as AMC's new CEO, following Mr. Engle's transition to the Board. Mr. Smith is currently AMC's vice president of client relations, as well as the CEO of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), AMC's largest association partner. He has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare association management, and joined AMC in 2007 as an account executive and CEO of AAHPM. He is also the executive sponsor of AMC's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Group.

"I look forward to my new role on the AMC Board and seeing Steve, along with the leadership team, lead the day-to-day operations of AMC, said Scott Engle." Steve is an exceptionally skilled leader whose passion for serving our association partners will ensure they continue to grow and thrive."
