The American Bankers Association (ABA), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Kirsten Sutton is the new senior vice president and executive director of ABA’s Card Policy Council. In this position, which she will assume on October 5, Ms. Sutton will play a leadership role on card and payments system issues.

Prior to joining ABA, Ms. Sutton was with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she was chief of staff for director Kathy Kraninger. Ms. Sutton has also served as chief of staff for CFPB's acting director Mick Mulvaney. Previously, Ms. Sutton was deputy staff director and staff director of the House Financial Services Committee under Chairman Jeb Hensarling.

“Kirsten’s deep understanding of consumer financial services policy and advocacy will be an asset as our industry continues to evolve to meet customers’ changing needs,” said Jess Sharp, ABA’s executive vice president of advocacy and innovation. “Her experience managing within complex, member-driven organizations and implementing strategic initiatives will serve her well in this important role.”
