12/28/2018

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

ASTM International, a member and audited designator of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Maryann Gorman, longstanding editor-in-chief of ASTM's Standardization News, will retire at the end of January.

Ms. Gorman has served as the editor-in-chief of Standardization News for nearly two decades, producing compelling stories from engineers and industry experts that reveal how standards are everywhere. She joined the magazine's staff in 1990 and, over the course of her tenure, served as an innovator who embraced digital platforms to bring content to readers worldwide. In 2016, ANSI awarded the ASTM team led by Ms. Gorman with the President's Award for Journalism for Standardization News, acknowledging journalists whose work helps to illuminate the role that standardization and conformity assessment activities play in the global marketplace.

ANSI thanks Ms. Gorman for her impactful work in the standardization community and wishes her all the best in retirement.

The Monitoring Association (TMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced the appointment of two new directors.

Ms. Illeny Maaza has been named director, membership and programs. Prior to joining TMA, she was a business analyst and member group liaison for the American Telemedicine Association (ATA). Ms. Maaza has years of experience in project management, membership, and customer service. She has also been the director of certification and systems integration at Idealliance, and manager of customer solutions at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA).

Ms. Leigh A. McGuire is TMA's new director of marketing and communications. She has worked for many years in the security industry, most recently with ANSI members, the Security Industry Association (SIA) and ASIS International in marketing communications, public relations, and event management. Previously, she worked with ADEMCO (now Honeywell) in their advertising and commercial marketing division.

"Illeny and Leigh each bring a unique scope of knowledge, experience, and talents to their new roles within TMA," said Celia Besore, executive director of TMA. "As TMA looks to build upon its firm foundation of excellence across the security industry, these two new additions to our team of professionals position the organization to advance its strategic goals in the core areas of membership, education, advocacy, and standards."
