People on the Move

2/21/2020

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Truss Plate Institute (TPI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is under new leadership with the appointment of Jay Jones as executive director. He assumed this position following Mike Cassidy's retirement after 15 years as TPI's executive director.

Mr. Jones joined TPI in 2008 as director of technical programs. Since then, he has directed all of the organization's technical activities, including the maintenance and update of ANSI/TPI 1, National Design Standard for Metal Plate Connected Wood Truss Construction. Prior to that, he worked in the component industry as a structural engineer, and ran his own consulting structural engineering practice with a focus on wood truss construction.

"I am pleased that Jay has accepted the executive director position, and he has the unanimous support of our Board," said TPI President Wayne Masengill. "His background and experience in engineering, standards development, and technical program oversight is extremely valuable to TPI. We are looking to Jay to lead us into the future and make sure the interests of TPI and its customers are well represented."

The Water Quality Association (WQA), an ANSI member, has announced that Mike Sennett is its new general counsel. In addition to providing general counsel to the association for various ongoing counseling matters, he will develop educational materials on legal topics of interest, assist the association in reviewing or developing policies and procedures, and create succession plans for long-term legal support.

Mr. Sennett comes to WQA after his retirement from Chicago law firm Jones Day at the end of 2019. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, serves on the board of the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies, and is a longstanding trustee for Illinois social services agency Children's Home & Aid.

"We're very pleased to welcome Mike to WQA," said WQA executive director Pauli Undesser. "Technically, it's a new position, but Mike has been providing legal support to the association since the early 1990s. He's well liked and well respected by WQA staff, the board of directors, and our members. Mike has a solid understanding of our industry and will provide general counsel and manage external legal engagements in the areas of employee relations, contract review, international affairs, and association management."
