People on the Move

1/11/2019

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that CEO Graham Brent will step down in July to lead the NCCCO Foundation. Thom Sicklesteel will take his place as NCCCO CEO.

Mr. Brent has led the organization since 1996, shortly after it was formed. He has guided NCCCO's tremendous growth over the past 23 years, overseeing their administration of over 1.2 million written and practical examinations and issue of more than 425,000 ANSI-accredited and OSHA-compliant certifications.

"NCCCO would not be the organization it is today without the leadership and guidance of Graham Brent," said Kerry Hulse, NCCCO president. "While his expertise and knowledge will be missed at NCCCO, we are excited about his accepting the CEO position of our newly formed NCCCO Foundation. We are certain he will expend the same energy and commitment to its success as he has done for NCCCO."

Thom Sicklesteel is currently the general manager USA of Leavitt Cranes, and is an NCCCO Board member and immediate past president. He is a member of ASME committee B30.5, Mobile and Locomotive Cranes, and an alternate of ASME committee B30, Cranes, Hoists Related Offerings.

"I am delighted that Thom has agreed to step into this role to lead a singularly professional team of dedicated staff and volunteers whose commitment to the NCCCO safety mission is as extraordinary as it is effective," said Brent. "And I have every confidence in the detailed transition plan that has been developed to provide seamless continuity of service to the industry and its certification stakeholders."

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Shayna Bramley as director of development. In this new role, Ms. Bramley will lead and manage all IES initiatives in the areas of development, marketing, and communications. She will also work to bridge education, standards, research, and membership.

Prior to joining IES, Ms. Bramley created iQ Education, a company that provided online education, digital marketing, and learning management systems for the lighting and electrical industry. The company quickly gained over 2,000 online learners, and Ms. Bramley sold it to a large utility consulting firm focusing on lighting education in 2017. She has also worked as an electrical engineer, a lighting manufacturer's sales representative, and an in-person educator for lighting and lighting control manufacturers.

Ms. Bramley has taught many introductory and intermediate lighting courses, written over 50 AIA/CES-approved courses, trained over 6,000 people in person, and worked on several industry certification courses. She is currently a member of the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professional's LC (Lighting Certified) exam committee as a writer.

"Joining IES as an employee is an amazing opportunity that comes along only once in a lifetime. To be able to combine all of those skills and mold them in a new position with IES is an honor," said Ms. Bramley. "I have watched IES change dramatically over the past three years under the leadership of Tim Licitra. I am honored for the opportunity to join his team."
