ASTM International, a member and audited designator of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced David Walsh is the new editor-in-chief of Standardization News, following the retirement of Maryann Gorman last month.
Mr. Walsh joins ASTM from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where he served as editor-in-chief of ASME.org. Previously, he held editorial positions at IEEE and Advanstar Communications. He holds a bachelor of arts in English from Bucknell University and master of arts in English literature from New York University.
"David brings a strong blend of print and digital communications experience coupled with a proven track record in the standards community. We're excited to see how he will help tell the story of one of the world's leading standards organizations," said Nathan Osburn, director of communications for ASTM.

IAPMO, an ANSI member and audited designator, has named Shannon Ethridge, diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology, as its new in-house toxicologist for IAPMO R&T. She will support the organization's work to certify products to applicable drinking water quality standards, including several American National Standards (ANS) developed by NSF International.
Ms. Ethridge is a regulatory toxicologist with experience providing toxicological support to many state agency program areas, including air, water, waste, compliance and enforcement, field operations, and agency communications. She has worked with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and numerous other local, state, and national agencies, government officials, members of the public, and activists. Ms. Ethridge brings with her expertise in public health, drinking water quality, human health risk assessment, environmental policy, and other areas.
"Shannon's background and experience will be an asset in supporting IAPMO R&T's enhancement of services in the drinking water quality arena and expanding business into areas where toxicological reviews are required," said Anish Desai, IAPMO R&T vice president of product certification. "We are very pleased to welcome her to the R&T team."
