USNC Current Newsletter Focuses on Stakeholder Involvement and 2018 Industry Symposium

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published the Fall 2018 edition of its quarterly newsletter, the USNC Current. The issue features managers' insights on stakeholder interest and engagement, and highlights the recent USNC Industry Symposium, which focused on how standards and conformity assessment can help support, safeguard, and improve all aspects of critical infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Issue special features include the folllowing:
- An op-ed by Edward Mikoski, vice president, EIA Standards and Technology, Electronic Components Industry Association, breaks down the process of identifying stakeholders, their interests, and their impact in standardization development and the IEC.
- The Eight Keys to Standards Stakeholder Success by Florence Otieno, U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the IEC Systems Committee - Smart Cities Lead, provides tried and tested stakeholder management tips, in addition to other editorials from managers at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
The issue provides a recap of the successful USNC-hosted Industry Symposium, held in Washington, DC, with over 60 participants representing 30 organizations. The event focused on international standards and how they can reinforce the cybersecurity aspects of critical infrastructure as it relates to the Internet of Things (IoT), digital transformation, smart infrastructure (manufacturing, factories, etc.), and smart cities.

A committee of ANSI, the USNC serves as the focal point for U.S. parties who are interested in the development, promulgation, and use of globally relevant standards for the electrotechnical industry.
