About GSO and ANSI

The GSO is the regional standards organization for the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Yemen. GCC members include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.

In recognition of the desirability for the global use of international standards, GSO and ANSI entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement as an extension of their commitment to facilitating international trade. See the related news item, ANSI Signs Several Memoranda of Understanding on the Sidelines of the 2009 ISO General Assembly.

Most recently, ANSI, with the support of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC) International Trade Administration (ITA), carried out a certified trade mission to Saudi Arabia and the UAE on March 10-13, 2019. The trip, which was led by ANSI's vice president of international policy, Joseph Tretler, fostered dialogued surrounding the standards development and participation processes for multiple regional metrology and standardization bodies, including the GSO. One outcome of the trade mission was that ANSI and the GSO signed an implementation plan for the MoU.
