ANSI/NIRMA CM 1.0-2021

American National Standard for Guidelines for Configuration Management of Nuclear Facilities

This standard provides guidelines for the development and implementation of Configuration Management (CM) Programs by organizations operating nuclear facilities. The goal of a CM Program is to ensure a state of equilibrium that reflects consistency between the design requirements, physical installations, and related facility configuration information. This goal is depicted in the industry-recognized 3-Ball Model introduced in the initial publication of the standard in 2000.  The purpose of this standard is to provide guidance for CM Programs. The standard is not prescriptive; rather, it identifies essential elements of a CM Program and industry-acceptable approaches for satisfying requirements of each element as determined by the implementing organization.  The 2021 Revision includes two (2) major enhancements: a) Expansion and clarification of various terms to better enable understanding of the intent of the guidance when implemented by the international nuclear community and b) Appendices which provide examples of how CM Program Elements have been implemented at operating nuclear facilities.
