Performance Requirements for Dual Check Backflow Preventers

This device consists of two independently acting check valves, internally force loaded to a normally closed position, designed and constructed to operate under intermittent or continuous pressure conditions. The purpose of the device is to keep polluted water from flowing back into the potable water system, when pressure is temporarily higher in the polluted part of the system than in the potable water piping. These devices are intended to protect the potable water supply from low hazard pollution at residential service lines and individual outlets. These devices are intended for cold water service under continuous or intermittent pressure conditions. Hot water usage is limited to the manufacturer specified temperature.
