C22.2 NO. 107.1-01 (R2011) - General Use Power Supplies

Intended Use

Safety requirements for General Use Power Supplies including specific requirements for Industrial DC power supplies, power converters for recreational vehicles, static transfer switches, inverters, telecommunication equipment power supplies, CATV power supplies, power conversion equipment for use in photovoltaic (PV) systems, utility-interconnected inverters, dc charge controllers and electric vehicle chargers.

Preface

This is the third edition of CSA Z341 Series, Storage of hydrocarbons in underground formations, which consists of CSA Z341.1, Reservoir storage, and CSA Z341.2, Salt cavern storage. It supersedes the previous editions, published in 2006 and 2002. It also replaces CSA Z341, published as a single Standard in 1998 and 1993.

Scope

1.1 This Standard applies to ac and dc type power supplies, including rack-mounted and modular units, that (a) are of dry or liquid-filled construction; (b) have a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V; and (c) are for commercial, industrial, and residential indoor and outdoor use in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

Note: These power supplies may include battery-charging functions.

1.2 Clauses 2 to 6 are general and apply, unless otherwise noted, to the power supplies covered by Clauses 7 to 17, as follows: (a) Clause 7 - industrial dc power supplies; (b) Clause 8 - power converters for recreational vehicles; (c) Clause 9 - static transfer switches; (d) Clause 10 - inverters; (e) Clause 11 - uninterruptible ac power supplies (UPS); (f) Clause 12 - telecommunication equipment power supplies; (g) Clause 13 - CATV power supplies; (h) Clause 14 - power conversion equipment for use in photovoltaic (PV) systems; (i) Clause 15 - utility-interconnected inverters; (j) Clause 16 - dc charge controllers; and (k) Clause 17 - electric vehicle chargers.

1.3 This Standard does not apply to (a) automotive and nonautomotive chargers as covered by CSA Standard C22.2 No. 107.2; (b) power supplies intended to supply extra-low-voltage for the operation of household electronic equipment, telecommunication equipment, and motor-operated equipment as covered by CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 223; (c) "built-in" component type power supplies forming an integral part of end use equipment such as telecommunication equipment, electronic data processing equipment, and office machines as covered by CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950; and (d) rotating type rectifiers.
