The ISO 50001 Essentials - Energy Management Systems Implementation Guideline (PLUS 50001)
OVERVIEW
Developed as a companion piece to the recently-released CAN / CSA - ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems standard, Canada’s first national Energy Management System (EnMS) standard, this implementation guideline has been designed to provide guidance to organizations who are about to implement an ISO 50001-conformant EnMS, as well as those who are attempting to realize continual improvement in energy performance over the long term through effective operation and maintenance of an EnMS. While this guideline is specifically aimed at the small and medium enterprises, organizations of all sizes will find it useful for developing and implementing an effective energy management system that can help reduce their overall energy usage.
The ISO 50001 Implementation Guideline is divided into four sections:
- Section 1 introduces the guideline, its intent and layout
- Section 2 introduces the ISO 50001 EnMS standard and discusses its relationship to other related documents
- Section 3 includes information on topical areas related to the application of the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard
- Section 4 includes ISO 50001 requirements, supplemented by guidance on the practical aspects for implementing key components of an EnMS. Also includes examples from a fictional company, developed to demonstrate how implementation may take place in a typical company
- Annexes to the Guideline include guidance on the use of the CAN / CSA – ISO 50001 standard, an EnMS Comprehensive Audit Checklist, and other supplemental information
