ANSI Z136.2-1997

Safe Use of Optical Fiber Communication Systems Utilizing Laser Diode and LED Sources

This Standard provides guidance for the safe use, maintenance, and service of optical fiber communications systems (OFCS) utilizing laser diodes or light emitting diodes (LED) with average output powers of less than 500 MW and wavelengths between 0.4 um and 1 mm. This standard applies only to systems where the radiant energy is confined to an optical fiber during intended use. For OFCS that do not meet these criteria, ANSI Z136.1 should be consulted.
