ANSI Z136.4-2005

Recommended Practice for Laser Safety Measurements for Hazard Evaluation

This document provides adequate, practical guidance for necessary measurement procedures used for classification and hazard evaluation of lasers. Evaluation consists of comparing measured exposure levels with the appropriate maximum permissible exposure (MPE) levels such as those found in the ANSI Z136.1-2000 standard, based on the ability of the laser beam or its reflection or scattering to cause biological damage to the eye or skin. This document is intended to provide guidance for manufacturers, laser safety officers (LSOs), and trained laser users.
