APT: Association for Print Technologies

NPES, the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies, is a nonprofit organization that develops and publishes standards for the printing and publishing industries. Headquartered near Washington, D.C., United States, NPES standards are ubiquitous within the United States through its over 400 professional member companies. NPES also serves as the administrator for the U.S. TAG (United States Technical Advisory Group) to ISO/TC 130 (International Organization for Standardization/Technical Committee). Standards from APT are available both individually, directly through the ANSI webstore, and as part of a Standards Subscription. If you or your organization are interested in easy, managed, online access to standards that can be shared, a Standards Subscription may be what you need - please contact us at: [email protected] or 1-212-642-4980 or Request Proposal Price.

Below are APT's best-selling standards. To find additional standards, please use the search bar above.

ANSI B65-1:2011

Graphic technology - Safety requirements for graphic technology equipment and systems - Part 1: General requirements

This part of the B65 series of standards provides safety specifications for the design and construction of new equipment used in prepress systems, printing press systems, binding and finishing systems, converting systems and stand-alone platen presses. It is applicable to equipment used in stand-alone mode, or in combination with other machines, including ancillary equipment, in which all the machine actuators (e.g. drives) of the equipment are controlled by the same control system.

ANSI B65-2:2011

Graphic technology - Safety requirements for graphic technology equipment and systems - Part 2:Prepress and press equipment and systems

This standard provides safety requirements specific to prepress and press equipment and systems. It is to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in B65-1.This standard provides additional safety requirements for the design and construction of new prepress and press equipment, and the auxiliary equipment integrated into the press control system.

ANSI B65/NAPIM 177.1-2018

Safety standard - Three-roll printing ink mills

The requirements of this standard apply to all three-roll mills used for the manufacturing of printing inks or similar materials used in the printing ink manufacturing industry. The purpose of this standard is to establish safety requirements with respect to safety controls, operating procedures and design of three-roll mills used for the manufacturing of printing inks.

ANSI/NAPIM 177.2-2017

Safety standard - Printing ink vertical post mixers

The requirements of this standard apply to vertical post mixers designed to be used in the production and manufacturing of printing inks. The purpose of this standard is to establish safety requirements with respect to the design and operation of vertical post mixers for batches larger than 4 gallons or mixers over 3 HP.

ANSI B65-3-2011

Graphic technology - Safety requirements for graphic technology equipment and systems - Part 3:Binding and finishing equipment and systems

This standard provides safety requirements specific to binding and finishing equipment and systems. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in B65-1.

ANSI/CGATS.17:2009 (R2020)

Graphic technology - Exchange format for colour and process control data using XML or ASCII text is attached for the ANSI electronic store.

This is a reaffirmation and replaces ANSI/CGATS.17-2009. Defines an exchange format for colour and process control data (and the associated metadata necessary for its proper interpretation) in electronic form using either XML or ASCII formatted data files.

ANSI B65-5:2011

Graphic technology - Safety requirements for graphic technology equipment and systems - Part 5:Stand-alone platen presses

This standard provides safety requirements specific to stand-alone platen presses. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the general requirements given in B65-1.This standard provides additional press design safety requirements for the design and construction of new manually-fed or automatic stand-alone platen press systems intended for diecutting, creasing, embossing, foil stamping and/or printing of paper, board and other materials processed in a similar manner. This standard is not applicable to presses designed to handle metal material other than foil.

ANSI B65/NAPIM 177.1-2018

The purpose of this standard is to establish safety requirements with respect to the design and operation of vertical post mixers for batches larger than 4 gallons or mixers over 3 HP.

CGATS TR 012-2020

Graphic technology - Color reproduction and process control for packaging printing

This Technical Report outlines the steps necessary to understand and objectively define the color and tone reproduction capabilities (and limitations) of a printing process. These steps include optimization, fingerprinting, process control, characterization, and process improvement which provide the information required in the package development workflow defined in CGATS TR 011 by aligning to characterization data in CGATS 21 or other embedded characterization data. This report also suggests steps that may be taken to control the printing processes to achieve consistent and predictable color.
