Emergency Lighting Standards

Emergency Lighting Standards seek to provide visual conditions which make safe and timely evacuation possible while simultaneously curtailing panic. Safeguards for emergency management are vital in areas to which either the public or workers have access. Recommendations for specific luminaires such as exit signs and other sources of guidance, as well as the installation, operation, and testing of these, are outlined. These standards also address design principles that account for optimal placement, energy use, and possibility of electrical supply failure during emergencies.

ISO 30061:2007

Emergency lighting

ISO 30061:2007 specifies the luminous requirements for emergency lighting systems installed in premises or locations where such systems are required. It is principally applicable to locations where the public or workers have access.

BS EN 1838:2013

Lighting applications. Emergency lighting (British Standard)

This standard specifies the luminous requirements for emergency escape lighting and standby lighting systems installed in premises or locations where such systems are required. It is principally applicable to locations where the public or workers have access.

IEC 60598-2-22 Ed. 5.0 b:2021

Luminaires - Part 2-22: Particular requirements - Luminaires for emergency lighting

IEC 60598-2-22:2021 is available as IEC 60598-2-22:2021 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition. IEC 60598-2-22:2021 specifies requirements for emergency luminaires for use with electrical lamps on emergency power supplies not exceeding 1 000 V. This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition published in 2014 and Amendment 1:2017. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - update of requirements for rest mode and inhibiting mode; - clarification of high temperature operation tests; - introduction of new requirements for lithium batteries; - introduction of new requirements for electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs); - clarification of resistance to heat, fire and tracking; - clarification of test facilities for self-contained luminaires; - clarification of the test method for contrast measurements of exit signs.
