Keyed Hash Message Authentication Code (MAC)
Defines an algorithm to compute a message authentication code (MAC) using a hash function such as SHA-1 (X9.30-1-1995). A MAC uses a shared secret key to compute an authentication code on a message (by the sender) and to verify this code (by the receiver). The MAC is used to detect accidental or deliberate alteration of data.
