The International Code Council (ICC), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Bruce Johnson the new director of fire service activities. A 30-year fire service veteran, Mr. Johnson will be the national principal point of contact for fire service activities and a representative of the ICC at meetings with fire service organizations.
Mr. Johnson has been with the ICC since 2007 as the government relations regional manager with responsibilities in Northeast states. He will continue to fill this role in his new position. Additionally, Mr. Johnson is the deputy chief fire instructor at the Suffolk County Fire Academy in New York and a college instructor at State University of New York’s Empire State College. He is a past president and active member of the New York State Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association and a member of several professional fire service associations.
Mr. Johnson has extensive experience and knowledge in firefighting operations and tactics, incident command, fire service administration, and emergency management. He has served his community as a volunteer firefighter and chief as well as a fire marshal. He holds an M.B.A., bachelor’s degrees in fire service administration and accounting, and several professional certifications.
Mr. Clements has served since 1998 as chief electrical inspector of Nova Scotia Power Inc., where he is responsible for overseeing the electrical inspection department. He also sits as a voting member on the Technical Committee on Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and is a member of the Regulatory Authority Committee and the Canadian Advisory Committee on Electrical Safety.
Mr. Clements was international president of IAEI in 2007 and served on the board for 13 years. During this time, he chaired a number of committees, including fiscal affairs and long range planning. He is a certified engineering technician and has received a certificate in management from the Canadian Institute of Management through Saint Mary’s University, as well as education and training through the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology.
