DIN EN ISO 13833:2013

Stationary source emissions - Determination of the ratio of biomass (biogenic) and fossil-derived carbon dioxide - Radiocarbon sampling and determination (ISO 13833:2013); German version EN ISO 13833:2013

The present Standard DIN EN ISO 13833 describes a sampling strategy as well as analytical procedures for the determination of biomass and fossil fuel derived CO<(Index)2> in the total emitted CO<(Index)2> from exhaust gases of stationary sources, based on the determination of the radioactive carbon isotope <(hoch)14>C. Sampling strategies for periods from 1 hour up to 1 month are given. The methods for the determination of the radioactive carbon isotope <(hoch)14>C include accelerated mass spectrometry and beta ionization and liquid scintillation measurement procedures. The lower limit of application is a biogenic CO<(Index)2> fraction of 0,02. The working range for biogenic CO<(Index)2> lies between 0,02 and 1,0. The expanded measurement uncertainty of the method is 10 % for biogenic CO<(Index)2> fractions of 0,02 to 0,10 and 5 % for biogenic CO<(Index)2> fractions of 0,1 to 1,0.
