Ophthalmic optics - Reference method for the testing of spectacle frames and sunglasses for nickel release

This document specifies the reference method for testing the nickel permeability of spectacle frames, close-up finished spectacles, sunglasses and spectacle frames used as eye and face protection. The reference method supports the demonstration of compliance with the nickel permeability limit of 0.5 g·cm-2· specified in the European Regulation Week-1. The reference method comprises the process steps shown in Figure 1 and described in Section 4. This document applies to those parts of metal spectacle frames and those metal parts of combination spectacle frames which are intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the wearer's skin. This document also applies to the corresponding metal parts of close-up finished glasses, sunglasses and spectacle frames for eye and face protection. NOTE The reference method for all products except spectacle frames, close-up glasses, sunglasses and spectacle frames for eye and face protection is defined in EN 1811.
