Registration Open for May 13 Event in Washington, DC

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) today released the draft agenda for a second meeting on the topic of dietary supplements standardization to be held on May 13, 2019 in Washington, DC. The meeting will bring together interested stakeholders to discuss standardization's role in advancing safety, quality, and trust in in the global supply chain.

The ANSI meeting will be held May 13 from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm Eastern with a networking lunch beforehand and a reception afterwards at the 20 F Street Conference Center, 20 F St, NW, Washington, DC. There is no fee to participate but sponsorship opportunities are available to help defray ANSI's costs. Advance registration by May 3 is required. The program will include presentations, activity updates, and discussion among stakeholders on avenues for cooperation. Representatives of manufacturers, retailers, government agencies, trade and professional associations, and consumer advocates, are encouraged to attend.

The upcoming meeting is a follow-up to a stakeholder event convened by ANSI and the Global Retailer and Manufacturer Alliance (GRMA) on December 6, 2018. At that time, participants agreed to reconvene in 4-6 months to continue discussions. The dietary supplements market is expected to see tremendous growth in the coming years. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently announced plans to strengthen its oversight of the dietary supplements market.

"ANSI is pleased to continue this dialogue among representatives from the dietary supplements community. The Institute has a track record of successfully bringing together stakeholders to discuss how voluntary standards and conformity assessment systems can support the public policy framework and the growth of emerging markets," said ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia.
