Did You Know?

11/09/2018

Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

ISDI to Host Webinar for First Responders
The Industrial Steel Drum Institute (ISDI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that it will co-host a free webinar with TRANSCAER to educate first responders in communities near transportation routes on the basics of steel drums and fusible plugs.

"Since steel drums are one of the most widely used types of industrial packaging for hazardous materials, it is essential that first responders understand their basic components and how to manage them during an event," said Kyle R. Stavig, chairman of ISDI and CEO of Myers Container LLC, General Steel Drum LLC, and CEO of North Coast Container LLC. "We're excited to once again support TRANSCAER's efforts to inform these brave men and women on a subject that could one day save lives."

The webinar will be held on December 13 from 2:00-3:00 pm EDT. Participation is open to all. See the ISDI news item to learn more and register.

IREC Scorecard Ranks States' Shared Renewable Energy Programs
The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has released a national scorecard grading the 17 existing state shared renewable energy programs, also known as community renewables or community solar.

The National Shared Renewables Scorecard evaluates each program against national best practices and against each other, offering insight onstrengths and opportunities for improvement. Areas of evaluation include policies and rules in place, as well as whether the programs lead to projects getting built and customers participating.

The top performing states, receiving an A grade, were Minnesota and New York. Also ranking highly, with a B grade, were California, Colorado, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and Maryland.

IICL Launches Recovery Database for Container and Chassis Equipment
The Institute of International Container Lessors (ICCL), an ANSI member, has developed a recovery database for equipment owned by intermodal equipment leasing companies.

The IICL Recovery Database accepts searches for up to 25 units at a time, displaying information on whether or not a unit is in recovery, its last known location, and contact details for its owner or operator. It also displays if equipment has been reported as stolen, informing potential buyers if they are being supplied with stolen property. The database is intended to facilitate the recovery process and deter theft and trading of stolen equipment.

See the IICL news item to learn more and use the database.
