APSP, the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals, founded in 1956, is a nonprofit organization with over 4,000 members that develops and publishes standards for the pool, spa, and hot tub industries. Headquartered in Alexandria, United States, APSP standards have been incorporated into laws in 47 states within the United States. In addition to developing APSP standards, APSP is heavily involved in public service announcements and other methods of educating the public about pool safety. American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance In Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins

This standard covers design and performance criteria for circulation systems including components, devices, and related technology installed to protect against entrapment hazards in residential and public swimming pools, wading pools, inground spas, infinity edge basins, (infinity edge type pools) and catch Pools, and Aquatic Recreation Facilities.

American National Standard for ResidentialáInground Swimming Pools

Includes Addenda A. This standard applies to permanently installed residential inground swimming pools intended for non commercial use as a swimming pool by not more than three owner families and their guests and exceeding 24 inches (61 cm) in water depth.

Standard Suction Fittings for Use in Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs

This standard establishes materials, testing, and makes requirements for suction fittings that are designed to be totally submerged for use in swimming pools, wading pools, spas, and hot tubs, as well as other aquatic facilities.

This standard describes certain criteria for the design, manufacturing, testing, care, and use of aboveground/onground residential (Type-O) non-diving swimming pools and their components.

American National Standard for Residential Portable Spas and Swim Spas

This standard is intended to cover factory built residential portable (self contained) spas or swim spas that are used for bathing and are operated by an owner. This standard does not cover Non-Self-Contained Spas, public spas, public swim spas, or permanently installed residential spas, or swim spas.


ANSI/APSP/ICC 3-2014

American National Standard for Permanently Installed Residential Spas and Swim Spas

This standard is intended to cover permanently installed residential spas and swim spas and not public spas, swim spas or factory built residential portable spas, swim spas that are used for bathing and are operated by an owner. In this type of spa the heater and water circulating equipment are not an integral part of the product. The spa is intended as a permanent fixture, and is not intended to be moved.


ANSI/APSP/ICC 8-2013

American National Standard for Model Barrier Code for Residential Swimming Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs

These requirements establish layers of protection for young children against the potential for drowning and near drowning in residential swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs by limiting or delaying their access to swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs.

American National Standard for the Plastering of Swimming Pools and Spas

This standard covers the material and application for the plastering of cementitous finish coatings for in-groud swimming pools or other cementitious water-containment vessels.
