NFPA, the National Fluid Power Association, is a nonprofit organization that develops and publishes standards related to the hydraulic and pneumatic industries. Headquartered in Milwaukee, United States, NFPA standards are propagated by its 340 member companies, which, while focused in the NAFTA region, are spread throughout the world. NFPA also serves as the administrator for the U.S. TAGs (United States Technical Advisory Group) to ISO/TC 131 (International Organization for Standardization/Technical Committee) and to many of the subcommittees for ISO/TC 131. NFPA/T3.6.37 R1-2010 (R2015)

Hydraulic fluid power û Cylinders û Method for determining the buckling load

Establishes a method to calculate the theoretical critical column buckling load of a loaded fluid power cylinder.


NFPA/T2.6.1 R2-2001 (R2014)

Fluid power components - Method for verifying the fatigue and establishing the burst pressure ratings of the pressure containing envelope of a metal fluid power component

This standard provides: test and statistical methods for generating fatigue distribution data; test and statistical methods for conducting a verification of the pressure ratings on fluid power components; common requirements and an industry-wide philosophy in judging one type of pressure capability for fluid power components; uniform methods of product comparison. This standard limits conditions as follows: constant amplitude, pressure induced loading of the elements that constitute or maintain the pressure containing envelope; product life of at least 100,000 cycles; defined conditions for pressure levels and pulse durations; temperatures from the charpy impact transition temperature to the threshold of creep sensitivity; environments which are chemically compatible with the materials of the pressure contining envelope; materials that are aluminum, magnesium, steel, iron, copper based alloys, cobalt, titanium, stainless steels, nickel steels and monel. Specifically excluded are creep sensitive materials such as: zinc, plastic, rubber and sealing devices. This standard encourages manufactureers to use this common method to enhance the credibility of their pressure ratings.


NFPA/T3.6.29 R2-2000 (R2014)

Tie rod or bolted cylinder - Pressure rating supplement to NFPA/T2.6.1 R2-2000 - Fluid power components - Method for verifying the fatigue and establishing the burst pressure ratings of the metal pressure containing envelope of a tie rod or bolted cylinder

This standard provides: test and statistical methods for generating fatigue distribution data; test and statistical methods for conducting a verification of the pressure ratings on tie rod or bolted cylinder; common requirements and an industry-wide philosophy in judging one type of pressure capability for fluid power tie rod or bolted cylinders; uniform methods of product comparison. Follow NFPA/T2.6.1 R2. This standard encourages manufacturers to use this common method to enhance the credibility of their pressure ratings.


NFPA/T3.6.7 R3-2009 (R2017)

Fluid power systems and products - Square head industrial cylinders - Mounting dimensions

This standard establishes mounting dimensions for dimensionally-interchangeable heavy-duty hydraulic, light-duty hydraulic and pneumatic square head industrial fluid power cylinders.


NFPA/T3.6.8 R3-2010 (R2015)

Fluid power systems û Cylinders û Dimensions for accessories for cataloged square head industrial types

Includes :nominal dimensions of accessories for cataloged industrial square head fluid power cylinders. Such accessories include pivot pins, plain rod eyes, rod clevises, eye brackets, split collars and weld plates [basic cylinder dimensions are standardized in NFPA/T3.6.7 R3]; dimensional identification code for envelope and mounting dimensions not already set forth in ISO 6099; dimensions for simplification of variety and dimensional interchangeability purposes only. This document is in no way intended to imply suitability of dimensioned components for any particular service or application. A method to determine load ratings will be handled through subsequent documents; dimensions for mounting accessories that will have a load rating compatible to that of the cylinder pressure rating for which the accessory is intended.


NFPA/T3.6.31 R2-2000 (R2014)

Telescopic cylinders and cylinders of non-bolted end construction - Pressure rating supplement to NFPA/T2.6.1 R2-2000 - Fluid power components - Method for verifying the fatigue and establishing the burst pressure ratings of the metal pressure containing envelope of a telescopic and nonbolted end fluid power cylinder

This standard provides: test and statistical methods for generating fatigue distribution data; test and statistical methods for conducting a verification of the pressure ratings on telescopic and nonbolted end fluid power cylinders; common requirements and an industry-wide philosophy in judging one type of pressure capability for telescopic and nonbolted end fluid power cylinders; uniform methods of product comparison. Follow NFPA/T2.6.1 R2. This standard encourages manufacturers to use this common method to enhance the credibility of their pressure ratings.


NFPA/T3.6.68-2010 (R2015)

Fluid power - Square head cylinders - Determination of the static failure pressure rating of pressure-containing components

Covers tie rod constructed square head industrial fluid power cylinders which apply to NFPA/T3.6.7 and provides requirements and design parameters for the determination of the theoretical static failure pressure rating of pressure containing components. It also provides guidance on material selection.


NFPA/T3.6.1-1984 (R2014)

Fluid power systems and products - Cylinder bores and piston rod diameters - Inch series

Intended to establish an inch series of cylinder bores and piston rod diameters for application to hydraulic and pneumatic fluid power cylinders.



NFPA/T3.6.11 R1-1998 (R2014)

Fluid power systems and components - Cylinder bore and rod size combinations û Rod end configurations, dimensional identification code - Mounting dimensions for bore sizes less than 1 ╜ inch bore cataloged square head tie rod type

This standard will include the following for cataloged square head tie rod type industrial fluid power cylinders (pneumatic and hydraulic) with bore sizes less than 1.5 in (38.1 mm) diameter: - recommended bore sizes; - recommended rod sizes; - recommended bore and rod size combinations and rod end configurations; recommended dimensional identification code; - recommended mounting dimensions. This standard will provide greater use and understanding of fluid power cylinders
