Sensory analysis - Testing of packaging materials and packages for foodstuffs

The standard specifies test methods for the sensory analysis of packaging materials which are intended for wrapping of foodstuffs which come in direct contact with the packaging material. Justification of this test is the identification of migration of odour and off-flavour substances from the material on the foodstuff. The test is applicable for evaluation of whether the material is suitable for the packaging of the foodstuff intended to come into contact with it. This standard is only partly applicable for the sensory analysis of paper and board. For the sensory analysis of paper and board regarding off-odour and off-flavour in indirect contact at room temperature DIN EN 1230-1 and DIN EN 1230-2 shall be used.
