General Standards for Self-Locking Nuts

These standards from ISO and SAE cover self-locking nut requirements.

SAE ARP 1515B-2018

Threaded Fastener Protrusion Through Self-Locking Nuts

To establish a recommended practice for the minimum protrusion of external threaded fasteners through one piece all metal self-locking nuts.

SAE AS 4847B-2018

Shank Nuts, Captive Blind Fastener,Mating Retaining Flange,Design Standard For

This design standard provides information on the use of self-locking shank nuts, thread sizes .1640-36 through .3750-24, together with details of flange hole and abutment shoulder for their installation.

ISO 12280:1999

Aerospace -- Retainers, spring, sheet metal, for self-locking barrel nuts -- Dimensions

This International Standard specifies the dimensions of sheet metal spring retainers intended for use with self-locking barrel nuts, ISO 12278. This International Standard is only applicable for the compilation of aerospace product standards.

ISO 5858:1999

Aerospace -- Nuts, self-locking, with maximum operating temperature less than or equal to 425 degrees C -- Procurement specification

This International Standard specifies the required characteristics for metric self-locking nuts, with MJ threads, for use in aerospace construction at a maximum temperature less than or equal to 425 C. It is applicable to nuts as defined above, provided that reference is made to this International Standard in the relevant definition document.

ISO 7481:2000

Aerospace - Nuts, self-locking, with maximum operating temperature less than or equal to 425 degrees C - Test methods

This International Standard specifies test methods for metric self-locking nuts with MJ threads intended for use in aerospace construction at maximum operating temperatures less than or equal to 425 C. It describes the test device and the method for each test. It applies to self-locking nuts as defined above, provided that the relevant documents (dimensional standard, drawing, procurement specification, etc.) refer to this International Standard. This International Standard shall be used in conjunction with ISO 5858.

ISO 8641:2008

Aerospace - Self-locking nuts with maximum operating temperature greater than 425 degrees C - Procurement specification

ISO 8641:2008 specifies the required characteristics for metric self-locking nuts, with MJ thread, for use in aerospace construction at a maximum temperature greater than 425 °C. ISO 8641:2008 is applicable to nuts as defined above, provided that reference is made to this International Standard in the relevant definition document.

ISO 8642:2008

Aerospace - Self-locking nuts with maximum operating temperature greater than 425 degrees C - Test methods

ISO 8642:2008 specifies test methods for metric self-locking nuts with MJ threads intended for use in aerospace construction at maximum operating temperature greater than 425 °C. It describes the test device and the method for each test. ISO 8642:2008 applies to self-locking nuts as defined above, provided that the relevant documents (dimensional standard, drawing, procurement specification, etc.) refer to this International Standard. Other test devices or test methods than those specified in ISO 8642:2008 may be used, but, in the event of a dispute, the requirements laid down in this International Standard shall take precedence. ISO 8642:2008 shall be used in conjunction with ISO 8641.
