Terminology

The Solar Energy industry relies on standardization for many things, including testing energy conversion, reflectance or materials properties, fabricating arrays, integrating into the smart grid, or assuring workplace safety.

Solar photovoltaic energy systems - Terms, definitions and symbols

IEC TS 61836:2016 RLV contains the International Standard and its Redline version. The Redline version is available in English only. The Redline version provides you with a quick and easy way to compare all the changes between this standard and its previous edition. The Redline version is not an official IEC Standard, only the current version of the standard is to be considered the official document. IEC TS 61836:2016(E) deals with the terms, definitions and symbols from national and international solar photovoltaic standards and relevant documents used within the field of solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems. It includes the terms, definitions and symbols compiled from the published IEC technical committee 82 standards. The main technical change with regard to the previous edition consists of adding / revising terms and definitions which have been discussed and agreed on during recent meetings of the TC 82 terminology working group.

Standard Terminology of Solar Energy Conversion

1.1 This terminology pertains to the conversion of solar energy into other forms of energy by various means, including thermal absorption (i.e., solar thermal) and the photovoltaic effect (i.e., photovoltaics). 1.2 This terminology also pertains to instrumentation used to measure solar radiation. 1.3 This terminology also pertains to glass for solar energy applications. 1.4 Fundamental terms associated with electromagnetic radiation that are indicates as derived units in Standard IEEE/ASTM SI 10 are not repeated in this terminology. 1.5 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

Solar energy - Vocabulary

This document defines basic terms relating to the work of ISO/TC 180. The committee covers standardization in the field of the measurement of solar radiation and solar energy utilization in space and water heating, cooling, industrial process heating and air conditioning. Consequently, the vocabulary within this document is focussed on definitions relating to those measurement and utilisation technologies. Since the 1999 version of this document there has been considerable development in solar photovoltaic technologies and high temperature solar thermal technologies that use heat to produce electricity or to provide high temperatures for processes that require elevated temperatures. This standard has some definitions that are useful also for those technologies; however, there are other documents that cover vocabulary for these technologies in more detail.
