People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.
The Arc Flash Collaborative Research and Testing Project, a joint initiative of two members and accredited standards developers of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), recently appointed Dr. P.K. Sen and Ravel Ammerman as project managers, and Dr. Tammy Gammon as research manager.
As joint project managers, Sen and Ammerman will lead the multi-year initiative which aims to utilize research and testing to gain a greater understanding of electrical arc flash and arc blast hazards, and how to better safeguard employees. [see related article]
Dr. Sen is a professor and site director of the Power Systems Engineering Research Center at the Colorado School of Mines. He has published over 120 papers on power-related topics and has more than 40 years of experience across the field of power engineering.
Mr. Ammerman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Engineering Division at the Colorado School of Mines who has over 25 years of experience in the power industry. His research includes arc flash hazards, electrical safety, and computer applications in power systems.
As research manager, Dr. Gammon will conduct a global search of engineering databases and literature, issue a report on information relevant to the project, and provide input on developing an engineering model for arc flash. Dr. Gammon has published widely, has a broad range of arc flash experience, and serves on the IEEE/NFPA Joint Task Force on Arc Flash and the IEEE 1584 Arc-Flash Hazard Working Group.
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently announced two additions to its leadership structure:
Nicolas Fetchko has been named director of international and government affairs for TIA. He will work to further the international interests of information and communications technology (ICT) manufacturers in the U.S. and abroad, facilitating business opportunities through coordination of and participation in bilateral and multilateral dialogues.
Fetchko has over ten years of public sector experience in international telecommunications and information technology trade policy to augment the association's extensive policy and advocacy operations. In his most recent position as foreign service officer at the U.S. Department of State, he advanced international communications and information policy with South and Central Asia, Latin America, Canada, Italy, Portugal, Germany and El Salvador. He holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Tulane University and a B.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University.
Taly Walsh, appointed vice president of marketing and business development, will work to enhance TIA's position in the information communications and entertainment industries by promoting the association's standard-setting programs, government affairs, market intelligence, business development, and environmental compliance activites.
Walsh has over twenty years of experience in association and tradeshow marketing, strategic branding and positioning, web development, technology, and membership relations. She was previously senior vice president for marketing and membership at InfoComm International, an ANSI member representing the audiovisual industry. Prior to that, she led the marketing for CardTech/SecurTech, a tradeshow for the biometrics and security industries, and for Public Technology, Inc., an association advancing research and technology in local and state government.
