The American Nuclear Society (ANS), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Jack Tuohy as its executive director.

In this role, Mr. Tuohy will support the ANS mission to promote excellence in the study and application of nuclear science and engineering, as well as the organization’s efforts to communicate effectively with its membership, policymakers and the public.

With thirty-eight years of experience in corporate management, consulting, academia, and nuclear engineering, Mr. Tuohy previously served as director of Hitachi America, Ltd.

Mr. Tuohy was named to the position following the retirement of Mr. Harry Bradley, who served as ANS executive director for nearly eleven years.


Standards Management International, LLC (SMI), an ANSI member, has announced the appointment of Ray Morris as principal in the firm.

In this position, Mr. Morris will focus on SMI’s global client relations and consulting.

The former executive vice president and COO of SAE International, also an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, he spent thirty-four years with the organization, holding a variety of positions such as director of communications, division manager, director for engineering meetings, education, and public affairs, and executive director for products and services.

In addition, Mr. Morris is a former member of the ANSI Board of Directors.
