As of October 29, 2007, Dr. David L. Schutt has assumed the role of executive vice president/chief operating officer-elect for SAE International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.
Dr. Schutt was selected by an executive search committee following the announced April 2008 retirement of Raymond A. Morris, SAE International’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. Morris announced his plans for retirement to the SAE Board of Directors in April 2007.
“We are delighted to have David join SAE International,” said Mr. Morris. “His vision and enthusiasm for science and technology, combined with his non-profit society experience, will ensure that SAE pursues and delivers world-class value to our membership and the industries we serve.”
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Schutt was chief strategy officer and director of external affairs for the American Chemical Society. He joined the Society's staff in 1992 as a science policy fellow after completing his doctoral work in physical chemistry at Princeton University and his Bachelors of Art from Calvin College. He also earned an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University.
Delbert F. Boring, P.E., vice president of construction market development for the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), has announced his retirement at the end of 2007 after 31 years of service.
Since 2003, Mr. Boring’s responsibilities included the development and implementation of the Market Development Strategic Plan 2005-2009 for AISI’s Construction Market program. He was also responsible for oversight of AISI’s Codes and Standards program.
“Del exemplifies [our] goal to recruit well and retain forever high-quality, highly motivated professionals who are dedicated to the health and success of our industry,” said Ward J. Timken, Jr., chairman of the board for AISI, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.
During his career, Boring was recognized for his leadership and technical expertise. In 2000, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) presented him with a Meritorious Service Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the voluntary consensus standards system. He served as a member and chair of both the ANSI Board of Standards Review and the ANSI Appeals Board. He is also the co-author of four publications on fire protection.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and a Master of Science degree in structural engineering from The Ohio State University.
Robert J. Wills, P.E. has been promoted to vice president of construction market development at AISI, effective January 1, 2008. Wills was formerly AISI’s director of construction codes and standards.
Mr. Wills has over 18 years of experience with AISI. His primary areas of expertise include fire safety engineering, structural fire testing and performance, wind engineering, and geotechnical and foundation engineering. He has been active in the standards development field as a member of ASTM International, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the International Codes Council (ICC), and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
Wills graduated from Mississippi State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with special emphasis on structural and foundation engineering.
