Paper Specifications for Checks

Establishes paper specifications for the documents that are used in the payment system. While checks are the primary documents considered in these specifications, users of MICR/OCR E13B font readers will be well served by applying these specifications to other internal documents as well, such as teller's tickets, process control items, etc. The specifications state what are considered to be the appropriate requirements for paper from the viewpoint of the end user, namely the institution performing post encoding in proof-of-deposit applications and those that operate reader/sorter equipment for inclearing and transit clearing applications. Paper specifications from the standpoint of fraud prevention and security are not covered in this standard. Although there are additional paper characteristics that are important to the document printers in terms of printability, security, etc., they are not covered in this standard.
