Standard Test Method for Analyzing Stress in Glass

This test method covers the analysis of stress in glass by means of a polarimeter based on the principles developed by de Senarmont and Friedel ( 1,2 ). Stress is evaluated as a function of optical retardation. Retardation is expressed as the angle of rotation of an analyzing polarizer that causes extinction in the glass. 1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
