Standard Guide for Additive Manufacturing of Metals – Feedstock Materials – Metal Powder Feedstock Characterization Data for the Purpose of Comparative Quality Evaluation

1.1 This guide provides:

1.1.1 Quality assessment guidelines on currently active ASTM International, and selected International Organization for Standardization (ISO) powder test methods, for metal powder feedstock used in additive manufacturing (AM).

1.1.2 Characterization data for AM grade metal powders; both within laboratory and interlaboratory study data, for the purpose of comparative quality evaluation of the data.

1.1.3 A description of the most commonly used powder test methods and references to their associated standard documents.

1.1.4 Best practice guidance on how to apply the aforementioned powder test methods, to make them more suited for AM metal powder characterization.

1.2 Units—The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
