Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) - Jitter at Network Interfaces

The North American telecommunications network is comprised of asynchronous and SONET networks. This standard describes the jitter specifications for SONET network interfaces and for asynchronous interfaces to SONET networks. The general jitter specifications for asynchronous interfaces are described in American National Standard for Telecommunications - Digital hierarchy - Electrical Interfaces, ANSI T1.102-1993. Information pertaining to SONET equipment jitter performance is included for cohesiveness of the network interface specifications and to aid the reader in understanding underlying assumptions. This standard does not specify equipment requirements.
