Specification for Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloys for Aerospace Applications


Contains the requirements for designing, friction stir welding, and inspecting aluminum aerospace hardware. Friction stir welding (FSW) produces a weld between two abutting work pieces by the friction heating and plastic material displacement caused by a rotating tool that traverses along the weld joint.
