CSA Preface

This is the first edition of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-80, Household and similar electrical appliances ù Safety ù Part 2-80: Particular requirements for fans, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-80 (third edition, 2015-04). CSA Group will publish the French version when it becomes available from IEC.

For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-80 throughout.

NOTE 101 Examples of fans that are within the scope of this standard are

û ceiling fans;

û duct fans;

As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account

û persons (including children) whose

    ò physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or

    ò lack of experience and knowledge

    prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;
û children playing with the appliance.

NOTE 102 Attention is drawn to the fact that

û for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;

NOTE 103 This standard does not apply to

û appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes;

û appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
