SPE-2000-94 - Guide for Electrical Equipment for Installation and Use in Canada


Intended Use

SPE2000 is based on requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part l and is intended to be used as a guide for identifying equipment requirements that are influenced by rules of the installation Code. Manufacturers
need to be aware of requirements directly or indirectly linked to the CE Code, Part l when making choices in the design of electrical products intended to be installed and used in Canada.

1. Scope

1.1 This Guide for Electrical Equipment for Installation and Use in Canada applies to electrical equipment designed to meet requirements of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standards and intended to be installed and used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

1.2 This Guide is intended to provide guidance for the uniform application of requirements derived from the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I that are related to the design of electrical products.

1.3 Clause 3 applies to equipment related requirements which are based directly on Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

Clause 4 applies to equipment related requirements based indirectly on Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Rules (compatibility) or general requirements of the Canadian Ele ctrical Code, Part II that are relevant to Part I.

Clause 5 applies to equipment related requirements based on Canadian Codes other than the Canadian Electrical Code, Parts I and II.
