Protective equipment for use in ice hockey - Head protectors for skaters (Adopted ISO 10256-2:2024, second edition, 2024-07, with Canadian deviations)

CSA Preface This is the seventh edition of CSA Z262.1, Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Head protectors for skaters , which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 10256-2 (second edition, 2024-07), Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Part 2: Head protectors for skaters. It supersedes the previous edition developed by CSA Group and published in 2015 as CSA Z262.1, Ice hockey helmets. For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as “CSA Z262.1” throughout. This Standard is part of the CSA Z262 series of Standards based on the adopted series of ISO Standards: a) ISO 10256-1:2024, Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Part 1: General requirements; b) ISO 10256-2:2024, Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Part 2: Head protection for skaters; c) ISO 10256-3:2024, Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Part 3: Face and eye protectors for skaters; and d) ISO 10256-4:2024, Protective equipment for use in ice hockey — Part 4: Head and face protectors for goalkeepers. The adoptions of these ISO Standards as National Standards of Canada is an important step in the acceptance of safety requirements of the protective equipment for use in ice hockey traded on a worldwide basis. The CSA Technical Committee on Equipment and facilities for ice hockey determined that the ISO 10256 series could be used as the basis for the new edition of the CSA Z262 series because these Standards most closely reflected the committee’s perspective on safety performance of ice hockey protective equipment and because adopting them fosters international harmonization. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Equipment and Facilities for Ice Hockey, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Health and Well-being, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope This document specifies performance requirements and test methods for head protectors for use in ice hockey. This document is applicable to head protectors worn by ice hockey players excluding goalkeepers and by referees.
