Procedures for the Measurement of Occupational Noise Exposure
This Standard has been written for measurements using Leq and Lex in recognition that these descriptors are universally regarded as superior to LOSHA as a means of assessing employee noise exposure. This Annex is provided because, at the time of writing, some jurisdictions still use LOSHA in Canada. The procedures outlined in this Standard may be used to measure noise exposure in terms of LOSHA instead of Leq. However, Leq yields higher level exposure results, thereby providing a greater cushion of safety (safety factor). Therefore, it is strongly recommended that Leq and Lex be used for assessing employee noise exposure even when legislation requires the use of LOSHA. By its inherent nature, LOSHA does not adequately account for impulse noises. Procedures for handling impulse noise with LOSHA are not included in this Standard. In other respects, however, the procedures of this Standard can be used to measure LOSHA , with the following modifications.
